A rare merge of everything you can imagine from the best of "Old School", Cutting Edge & State of the Art in one production space.
Addiction Sound Studio is the private studio of
Jonathan Cain & David Kalmusky.
Designed, by Chris Huston (Who's engineered for Led Zeppelin, War, The Who, The Animals) Jonathan & David, the cutting floor was built around the idea of being so well diffused, that you can get completely intimate micing, anywhere in the room, and the reflections never return directly to the point of origin. For example, the overheads contain very little room, and when you introduce the distant room mics, the room is huge, and alive.
With an underground echo chamber, tuned vocal booths, 2 inch and 1/2 inch Tape, as well as the latest Pro Tools HDX2 Systems, Mytek Converters, HD i/o converters, Trident consoles, with a ton of classic Neve, UA, UREI, etc gear (See Gear Page), this production environment is a rare merge of everything you can imagine from the best of "Old School", Cutting Edge & State of the Art in one production space.
In 1976 Jonathan Cain released his first solo record "Windy City Breakdown", in 1979 he joined the band "The Baby's" and in 1980 Jon left The Baby's to join the rock band Journey. Jonathan's signature Piano, Synth playing, and songwriting contributions with Journey, The Baby's, & Bad English have earned him many Billboard hits, multiple gold, platinum, and Diamond selling records, a Star on the Hollywood walk of fame, the best selling catalog rock song in iTunes history (Don't Stop Belevin') Journey was named as the 5th best band in rock history in a 2005 USA Today opinion poll, and continues today, selling out arenas worldwide.
"Completely intimate micing... anywhere in the room."
David grew up a 3rd generation musician. His father, Kenny Kalmusky, along side of Richard Manuel, left their band The Revols in 1958 to join one of the earliest renditions of The Hawks, which is described in early chapters of Levon Helms book,"This Wheel's On Fire". Kenny went on to tour and make records with Ronnie Hawkins, Todd Rundgren, Jerry Reed, Ian & Sylvia, and was one of the founding members of the folk rock band The Great Speckled Bird who's self titled debut record was the 1st LP to launch the Bearsville Record label. David was exposed to the studio, literally at birth, grew up in the studio, recording and playing music. David hit the road when he was 16, and has worked in the studio as a producer, mixer, engineer, multi instrumentalist, with acts & artists including Journey, Vince Gill, Justin Bieber. Small Town Pistols, Hunter Hayes, Neal Schon, Emerson Drive, The Road Hammers, John Oates (Hall & Oates), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Carolyn Dawn Johnson, The Wilkinsons, and a long list of easily 100 more acts.
